Things to do on Kauai with Kids

The Hawaiian island of Kauai is a family friendly island with numerous and fun things for families to do together. The Garden Isle also features many activities kids will enjoy as well. Let’s look at some of the things you can do with your kids on Kauai.

The Beaches

Most everyone who visits Hawaii looks forward to going to the beach. The island of Kauai has plenty of pristine waters and sandy beaches. Poipu Beach is a favorite of tourists and locals alike and offers a variety of activities for the entire family. Named America’s Best Beach by the Travel Channel, Poipu Beach has a range of exciting activities for very young children and older children, as well as adults. You can swim, go boogie boarding, snorkeling, or surfing on Poipu Beach. It’s also the perfect place to picnic, and there are lifeguards and restrooms as well as a playground. The kids will enjoy junior golf, miniature golf, and the whole family can go hiking too.  If you have very young children, you might enjoy Baby Beach, which is just west of Poipu Beach.

Kids’ Camps

Some of the local accommodations offer day camps for kids. You don’t necessarily have to be staying at the resort in order for your children to participate, however, you should check with the resorts for age restrictions and to make sure non guests are welcome if you are not staying there. Most of the Kids’ Camps offer fun and educational activities at either half or whole day camps. Some of the camps accept children as young as 3 years old on up to age 12.

Tour Kauai with Your Kids

There are also several types of tours that are kid-friendly. Even young children are welcome on some of the kayaking tours. There are calm rivers that are perfect for family adventures and you can combine hiking with a kayaking tour to see some of the tropical paradise of Kauai up close. You can hike right up to magnificent waterfalls. There are even jungle pools where you can go swimming if you like.

The ages of your children may be the determining factor in which activities you decide to participate in. While children as young as infants are welcome on some of the Kauai tours, other, more rigorous tours are reserved for older children. Some of the tours require a certain level of fitness as you may trek through rough terrain so be sure and read all of the guidelines and any restrictions before you book your tours. Most of the Kauai tours can be booked online through websites that offer extensive information so it will be easy for you to determine which tour is best for your family.
